Man shot in Watsonville armed robbery

Watsonville police were dispatched to the area of Madison and Stanford streets at about 11:05 p.m. on Tuesday night, in response to an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old Hispanic man sitting in his vehicle, suffering from a single non-life threatening gunshot wound to his right lower leg.

The victim told officers he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his parked van when he was approached by an unknown man.

The suspect was wearing dark clothing and was attempting to cover his face with a brown turtle neck. The suspect tapped on the window with a firearm before opening the door and demanding money.

The victim complied and gave the suspect his wallet. The suspect shot the victim after taking it and left the area on a black BMX style bicycle.

The suspect was last seen riding his bicycle northbound on Madison Street towards Prospect Avenue.
