Santa Cruz Police investigate shooting and hit & run
The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating a shooting and a hit and run that happened nearly simultaneously Saturday around 2:30 p.m.
According to the department, officers were responding to a report of shots fired in the area of Wanzer Street and Getchell Street when they also got a call about a hit and run in the same location.
Detectives have determined that cars fleeing the shooting scene hit a car on their way out.
Detectives say the shooting victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries, but is being uncooperative. As for the hit and run victim, detectives say the victim was not involved in the shooting.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help in the investigation. They found shell casings and blood at the scene. Detectives are looking into the role of two vehicles and a group of people who witnesses say they saw in the area.
Witnesses described one suspect vehicle as a black, 4-door sedan with driver side damage. The other is described as a light silver or white SUV with rear end damage. Detectives believe the incident is gang-related.
