UPDATE: Bacteria advisory lifted at Monterey Municipal Beach

UPDATE 12/3/2015 11:47 AM: An advisory for Monterey Municipal Beach has been lifted after high levels of bacteria were found in the water on Monday, according to the Monterey County Health Department.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Monterey County Health Department has issued a high bacteria advisory for Monterey Municipal Beach based on samples taken on Monday.

Health officials said high bacteria levels come from marine life, rain runoff, storm drains and humans. The public is being asked to avoid going in the water to prevent illness until the warning has been lifted.

The health department said signs have been posted at the beach warning the public.
