UPDATE: Monterey Verizon store hit by armed robber

UPDATE 12/2/2015 2:04PM: Verizon Store Manager Steve Callahan told NewsChannel5 he was working alone at the time of the robbery and there were no customers in the store.

Callahan said the suspect asked for money two times. But after he refused to hand money over, Callahan said the suspect pulled out a walking stick or baton and swung at him, hitting the computer.

Callahan then pulled the till out of the register and placed it on the counter. The suspect took $300 and fled the scene. Callahan also told us he immediately called police, who responded within minutes.

ORIGINIAL STORY: Monterey Police said officers responded to an armed robbery at the Verizon Wireless Store at 570 Munras Ave. Monday just before 6 pm.

Officers said one suspect entered the store, armed with a long walking stick, demanded money and ran out of the store.

The suspect was described as a White or Hispanic male adult, 25-35 years old, 5′-8″, 185 lbs, wearing a grey hooded pullover sweatshirt, with a multi-colored fabric material covering half his face and wearing silver rimmed aviator glasses with mirrored lenses.
