CSUMB students build mobile apps

Students from CSUMB and other colleges started a three day competition to build a mobile app.

For the Startup Hackathon Monterey Bay students and mentors developed android aps for small businesses and nonprofits in Monterey.

Faculty say the friendly competition encourages them to put their knowledge to the test while helping out local businesses.

“The small businesses and these organizations are going to benefit because at the end of the event they are going to have a working prototype that they can use,” said CSUMB professor Miguel Lara. “If they want they can continue developing and then they can use this app in the real world.”

Apps for wedding planning and reading emotions are a few being designed.

All of them will be uploaded for anyone to download.
