Person of interest in Watsonville homicide case turns herself in

UPDATE 11/19/15 7:06 PM: Watsonville Police say Rachelle Vasquez, a person of interest in a homicide case, has turned herself in.

Vasquez is not under arrest. Police told NewsChannel 5 Damian Baxter is still at large.

UPDATE 11/19/15 12:45 PM: Watsonville Police have identified the victim in Tuesday’s deadly shooting as Jesus Rocha, 33, from Watsonville.

Police said a motive for the shooting is still unknown.

UPDATE 11/18/15 1:32 AM: Police said they now have two persons of interest in the deadly Watsonville shooting investigation.

They are searching for Damian Baxter, 29, and Rachelle Vasquez, 30. Baxter has an injury on one of his legs and may be using crutches. Baxter is also wanted on an unrelated felony warrant for having ammunition when he’s not allowed to.

UPDATE 11/17/15 1:39 PM: Watsonville Police said officers responded to a shots fired call around 11:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Palm Ave.

Two nearby schools were not placed on lockdown, because police said they determined there wasn’t a threat.

Officers investigating the homicide said one man, between 25 and 30-years-old, was found shot in a carport of a tri-plex. Emergency responders tried life-saving measures on scene, but police said he didn’t make it.

No suspects have been located in this case, police said.

NewsChannel 5 spoke with a mom in the neighborhood who said she’s worried, especially because she said she’s seen increased drug activity in the area.

ORIGINAL STORY: Watsonville police said officers are investigating a homicide Tuesday, after a shooting near Jefferson and Palm Ave around 11:30 a.m.

Police said there was an argument of some sort between the victim and a suspect and shots were fired.

They said one person is dead, but they don’t know who the person or who the suspect is.
