Testing of California’s toxic crab continues
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been collecting samples of Dungeness and rock crab from all over California to test domoic acid levels. Samples were taken from Monterey Bay.
Testing will continue until two consecutive rounds of sampling show levels below the California Department of Public Health’s standard for domoic acid.
Earlier in November, the CDPH warned people to not eat crab after the discovery of high domoic acid levels from a massive algae bloom. That eventually led to the delay of both commercial and recreational crab fishing.
