‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ robber leaves probation program interview, arrested again in Pacific Grove
A Sand City man convicted of robbing a bank in Santa Cruz while dressed as a woman in April, is back behind bars after leaving a probation program interview in San Francisco, police said Friday.
During the initial search for Brandon Calantoc, police dubbed him the “Mrs. Doubtfire” robber because of the wig and clothing he was wearing to conceal his identity.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said Calantoc was convicted on the bank robbery case but a judge allowed him to interview at a probation program in San Francisco. Deputies said while was there, he walked out of the program, initiating a search for his arrest.
Second-degree robbery falls under a probation-eligible offense. In other words, a judge has discretion to allow anyone convicted of this crime to be a candidate for probation. For example, murder is not probation-eligible.
Investigators with the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team said Calantoc, 31, was located in the 1100 block of Seaview Avenue in Pacific Grove Thursday night. Calantoc was arrested on a no bail felony warrant, a $240,000 felony warrant and four misdemeanor warrants totaling $95,000.
In addition, officers found drugs on Calantoc and then after taking him to the Monterey city jail, officers discovered more drugs in a body cavity.
He was eventually taken to the Monterey County Jail.
Because “Mrs. Doubtfire” faces charges in both Monterey and Santa Cruz counties, he has to answer to the charges in Monterey County first then deal with Santa Cruz. Regardless if he’s sentenced to prison or probation in Monterey County, he’ll will then face a judge in Santa Cruz where a judge will decide how much time he will serve, the Santa Cruz District Attorney’s Office said.
