Salinas warming shelter set to open next week

The warming shelter on Lincoln St. in Salinas is set to open Monday, November 9.

The center is opening earlier this year because organizers are ahead of schedule.

Shelter Outreach Plus, the organizer, is also expecting more people this year because of El Nio.

The center can accommodate up to 68 people per night. Last year, it averaged about 30 people per night.

Those looking for shelter must follow strict rules, but are given a meal and a place to sleep.
