Evacuations underway for new wildfire burning in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 8/18/2021 5:40 p.m. Cal Fire said forward progress of a fire burning near Clearlake has stopped, but there is still no containment.

The agency has determined that the fire has burned 75 acres instead of 100 after more accurate mapping was conducted.

The Lake County Sheriff told KCBS Radio he estimates that 15 homes have been destroyed by the Cache Fire.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Lake County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation orders and warnings for several zones in the Clearlake area due to a new fire that started.

Cal Fire reports that the fire started near 6th Avenue and Cache Street, and the agency calls it the Cache Fire.

The fire started at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. As of 3:30 p.m., the fire was about 100 acres with no containment.
