UPDATE: Salinas Police identify man killed during hit and run crash on East Laurel Dr.

UPDATE 10/20/15 5:38 PM: Salinas Police have identified a man who was killed during a hit and run crash October 11 in the 800 block of East Laurel Drive.

Police said Ramiro Ortiz Zamora, 58, of Salinas, was crossing the road when he was hit by a blue Nissan 350Z. Officers said Zamora died on scene. They are asking anyone with information to call police.

PREVIOUS STORY: A 58-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car traveling westbound near the 800 block of East Laurel Drive in Salinas Sunday night, police said.

The call came in at 8:30 p.m. that a man was lying near the road. When police arrived, he was pronounced dead.

“The right, side view mirror from a blue car was left behind and investigators will be trying to determine the make of the vehicle based on the evidence,” police said in a news release.

Police said the man was not in the crosswalk at the time he was hit by the car and investigators believe he may have been under the influence of alcohol.
