Central Coast locals, tourists and businesses impacted by power outage

“It’s just kind of an inconvenience, kind of annoying,” said Jamison Daane of Seattle, Washington.

“It was a little annoying to not be able to see your face when you’re trying to brush your teeth,” said Jennifer Daane. “But you know you don’t wash your face cause you can’t see it.”

PG&E officials say an electric transmission tower and high voltage tower line came down at their Moss Landing transmission yard off HWY 1.

“What we want to know is exactly what took place there,” PG&E spokesperson Nicole Liebelt said. “That’s exactly why we’re doing a deeper dive and a thorough investigation and have brought in a third party to aid us in that effort.”

While they work locals, tourists and businesses fell the impact.

Stop lights had no light, backing up traffic on main arteries.

“They’re a little sketchy,” said Jennifer. “I feel like people are a little impatient.”

Locals and tourists had to enjoy the shut down version of Monterey.

“Unfortunately we’re just probably heading back home,” said Marina Thomas from Gilroy.

Some fun was sucked out of a bachelorette party, no electricity forced the group to switch plans.

“It’s a little bit disturbing because we are coming from far to celebrate,” said Nadira Macias from Fresno, CA. “But we’re going to make the best of it.”

Businesses felt the brunt of the outage.

Coopers Pub and Restaurant was also empty.

The TV’s were off, a big disappointment to sports fans.

“We’d be pretty busy,” Coopers Pub and Restaurant owner John Eales said. “We have nine TV’s back here, TV’s in the front dining room. A big TV out in the patio so we’d have people in here watching the games.”

But in the midst of it all some are finding the silver lining.

“I don’t have to spend as much money,” said Jamison.
