Natural gas leak in Hollister isolated, evacuation orders lifted

UPDATE 10/12/15 10:40 PM: About 60 people have checked into an evacuation center after they were forced to evacuate do to a natural gas leak in Hollister.
People living in the area of Locust Avenue and Virginia Street were told to leave their homes Monday night after firefighters located the leak near a meter in the area, Hollister Police said.
Nearby areas were told to shelter in place.
The American Red Cross and the San Benito County of Emergency Services are providing residents at the shelter with supplies to keep them overnight, police said.
PREVIOUS STORY: The area of Locust Avenue and Virginia Street in Hollister is being evacuated Monday night due to a natural gas leak, according to the Hollister Police Department.
At about 7:30 p.m., Hollister Fire was dispatched to the area. Firefighters located a gas leak near a meter in the area of Locust Avenue and Central.
Those outside of the area are asked to shelter in place until crews can respond to mitigate the leak, police said.
An evacuation center is open at the Veterans Memorial Building located on San Benito Street, for those affected.
