Police said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, 43, was identified as one of the two men who got into an altercation with Sanchez early Sunday morning.

Just before 1 a.m., officers found Sanchez with a gunshot wound to the head on Julia Avenue. He died hours later at Natividad Medical Center.

Rodriguez was booked into the Monterey County Jail for the homicide and outstanding warrants for drug and gun charges, police said.

At about 12:45 a.m., Salinas police responded to a report of a victim of a shooting on Julia Avenue near Wheeler Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found Jose Sanchez, 33, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Natividad Medical Center where he was pronounced dead several hours later, police said.

Further investigation indicated Sanchez got into an argument with two men at a house party, police said. When the fight escalated, one man pulled out a handgun and shot Sanchez.

Police said people at the party did not cooperate with police, adding Sanchez was not at the party.

Suspects have been identified in the shooting, however one is at large, police said.

Several minutes later, officers responded to a second shooting on the 300 block of Park Street.

At 1:03 a.m., officers found Andrew Hyde, 25, dead in front of a house.

Witnesses reported Hyde unknowingly entered the house and possibly confronted the homeowner with a knife. Police said the homeowner had a handgun and fired multiple times at Hyde, who succumbed to his injuries.

Police said it’s unclear why Hyde was at the home.

The investigation is still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.
