UPDATE: Soledad police identify Thursday’s murder victim
UPDATE 9/27/15 10:29 a.m: Soledad police identified the man killed Thursday as Eric EdwardShackelford.
The 37-year-old was foundlying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound to his head outside the Buena Vista Town Homes.
Police said the crime is possibly gang related.
UPDATE 9/26/15 10:47 a.m.: A man has been arrested for Thursday’s homicide near the Buena Vista Town Homes in Soledad, according to police.
Officials said Jose Carlos Romero was seen near the area at the same time the incident occurred.
Romero was later arrested near his home with the help of the South Monterey County Gang Suppression Unit.
UPDATE 9/25/15 5:16 p.m.: Soledad Police have released the name of the man who was killed Thursday night near the Buena Vista Town Homes.
Investigators said Eric Edward Shackelford, 37, was killed. They said his death was gang-related and that Shackelford was on parole.
PREVIOUS STORY: Soledad Police are investigating the death of a man in his 30’s found lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound to his head outside the Buena Vista Town Homes.
Police were called at 4:19 p.m. Thursday to the corner of Monterey Street and Oak Street to reports of a “man down, with lots of blood.” Police found a Hispanic man lying on the parking lot next to a basketball court. Police said he appeared to have suffered a major head injury. They said it also appears he had been dead for an extended period of time. Police said the crime is possibly gang related.
