Former acting King City Police Chief sentenced to 90 days in jail

On Tuesday, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said former acting King City Police Chief Bruce Miller was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 3 years probation by Judge Julie Culver.

Miller pleaded no contest to conspiracy andgiving false statements to the Department of Motor Vehicles earlier this year.

Investigators believe that under Miller’s command, officers were illegally stopping, towing and impounding cars driven mainly by Hispanics. Those towing and impounding duties were allegedly funneled to Bruce Miller’s brother’s company, Miller Towing.

Investigators also believe that these impounded cars were sold at auction or given to lead officer Bobby Carrillo by Miller. Miller allegedly took a free car from Carrillo, in return, he allowed Carrillo to continue the towing scheme. When registering the car from Carrillo, Bruce Miller gave false information to DMV claiming that he paid $500 for the car.

As part of his probation, Miller will not be allowed to work as an officer.
