Non-lead ammo being offered to protect California Condor

Supporters of the California Condor are working to help hunters switch to non-lead ammunition by offering free boxes through a raffle.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife said its offering non-lead ammo through its ‘State of the Birds’ program, which seeks to save the bird from extinction.

Hunters who are at least 18, can enter the raffle for free non-lead ammo. Fish and Wildlife said contestants must live in one of these counties: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, Tulare, Ventura, San Bernardino, Orange, and Riverside.

Researchers explain there’s science showing lead ammunition causes condors and other scavengers to ingest deadly amounts of lead every year.
