Arrest made in Watsonville jewelry store robbery

Watsonville police arrested a man for robbing a Don Roberto Jewelers on Main Street Tuesday.

Police said a nearby business reported sound of broken glass coming from the jewelry store right before 4:30 p.m.

Witnesses were able to provide officers with a description of the suspect.

Shortly after, police said an officer spotted a man matching that description near St. Patrick’s Church. When the officer tried to detain the suspect, the man ran off.

Salvador Silva, 28, was captured by officers at the intersection of Main Street and Rodriguez Street.

Police said Silva stole $1,000 worth of merchandise and had threatened people at the jewelry store.

SIlva was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, vandalism and probation violation.
