Two killed in crash at MotoAmerica Superbike race on Sunday

Two motorcycle racers were killed in a tragic crash at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 race, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said a chain-reaction, multi-bike incident happened just before 5 p.m. during the first lap of Sunday’s second race. MotoAmerica identified the competitors as Bernat Martinez, 35, and Daniel Fernandez, 27. Both are from Spain.

Martinez was taken to the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula where he passed away.

Fernandez was taken to Natividad, where he also passed away.
