UPDATE: Road re-opens after contruction crew hits gas line in Santa Cruz
UPDATE 7/20/15 2:51 p.m.: Pacific Gas and Electric reports a third party construction crew was doing work in the area of 17th Ave. between Felt and Merrill St. Monday afternoon, when a gas leak occurred. The construction crew was not working on PG&E lines, a representative said.
The leak was reported at about 12:51 p.m. and PG &E said crews responded in less than 30 minutes to stop the leak.
PG&E said fire crews arrived first and asked nearby Noah’s Arc Preschool to shelter in place until the leak could be looked at. No other businesses or homes were affected and no injuries were reported.
PG&G wants to remind everyone to Call 811 before a dig, to prevent gas leaks. Crews hope to have the gas line fixed by 4:00 p.m.
UPDATE 7/20/15 2:02 p.m.: Santa Cruz County crews said the gas leak on 17th Ave. has been fixed by PG&E and the road is back open.
Dispatchers said a construction crew hit a gas line around 12:45 p.m.
PREVIOUS STORY: A gas line break is being investigated Monday afternoon in Santa Cruz, according to dispatchers.
Responding officers report a small gas line was broken by a shovel on 17th Ave. between Merrill St. and Felt St. around 12:45 p.m.
Santa Cruz County Public Works is closing that portion of 17th Ave., while Pacific Gas and Electric works to fix the leak.
