Monterey Municipal Beach bacteria advisory issued

A high bacteria advisory has been issued for Monterey Municipal Beach due to high levels found in water samples, according to the Monterey County Department of Environmental Health.

Inspectors said these high levels of bacteria can lead to illness and they recommend people refrain from swimming in the water until the advisory has been lifted.

Bacteria levels can change due to marine life, rainfall runoff, storm drains and human activity, according to inspectors. The County said an advisory notice is posted at the beach.
