UPDATE 6/22/15 12:55 p.m.: Watsonville Police is revealing more information on its most recent arrest in the killing of a homeless man earlier this month near Ramsay Park.

Investigators said Luciano Acevedo is from Watsonville but has ties to Salinas. Acevedo is known to local law enforcement and could be an associate of a local street gang.

Police said Acevedo was out on parole before he was accused of killing a Carlos Vasquez, 27.

Acevedo is being held in the Monterey County Jail and will be extradited to Santa Cruz County soon. Police expect him to be charged with murder and a gun enhancement.

Investigators said they aren’t sure what what the motive was for Vasquez’ killing. They said eyewitnesses helped identify Acevedo.
