What Californians need to know about moving ‘beyond the blueprint’ on June 15th
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) Governor Gavin Newsom visited the Oldemeyer Center in Seaside and talked about a number of topics including California's move beyond the tier system and masks on June 15th.
California will be dropping the tier system and relaxing mask mandates, especially for individuals who are fully vaccinated.
On Monday afternoon, Newsom visited the Oldemeyer Center in Seaside and talked about California's move "beyond the blueprint" set for June 15th but what does this exactly mean? It means that California will be shedding istem and will relax mask mandates, especially for those who are fully vaccinated. However, when it comes to the workplace, the masks are staying for now.
"We're aligning with the CDC guidelines and OSHA that does the rule-making will meet on the 17th so 48 hours later and will codify the CDC framework," said Governor Newsom.
For now, unless everyone is vaccinated in a workplace, employees have to wear a mask but life should be returning back to normal for those who are fully vaccinated. People who are inoculated can attend most indoor and outdoor settings without a mask. However, face coverings are still required in public transit, K-12 classrooms, healthcare settings, and homeless shelters.
"We've move beyond the restrictions, we'll move beyond the modifications, and we'll substantially move beyond mask mandates here in California," said Newsom.
California is still going by the honor system and not mandating businesses to ask for proof of vaccination or requiring masks but they have the choice to do so. The acting bureau chief for the MOCO Environmental Health Bureau, which is the institution responsible for issuing health permits, has this message for businesses.
"Don't go to work if you're sick, make sure that you wash your hands, encourage vaccinations, get vaccinated, make cleaning and sanitation part of the plan, and have a plan," said Ric Encarnacion.
As California reopens, it's important to note the number of people that have lost their lives due to COVID, approximately 63,000.
