Marina arrest two during traffic stop, gang member allegedly carrying handgun

Marina police said two people were arrested during a traffic stop early Friday morning after a loaded handgun was located inside the car.

Officers said Jose Miguel Almanza Nieto of Castroville, Tracy Rhodes of Salinas and another passenger were in the car.

A Marina police officer said the driver was speeding and failed to stop at a posted sign while in driving without a license and carrying marijuana.

The officer said Nieto admitted to being a gang member and was carrying a loaded .45 caliber handgun concealed in his waistband.

Rhodes was arrested for an outstanding felony no-bail warrant out of Santa Cruz County.

Both Nieto and Rhodes were booked in the Monterey County Jail.
