UPDATE: Salinas Police arrest hit and run suspect

1/30/15 4:20pm: Police have arrested a man who ran from an accident near the on-ramp of Hwy 101 and Airport Blvd in Salinas.

Investigators say 44-year-old Robert William, came into the intersection at Roy Diaz and Airport Blvd. too fast and slammed into a car sitting at the red light. A patrol officer happened to be at the intersection and saw the accident. William then backed up and took off toward on the on-ramp to 101, but the car’s sterring column was broken and he crashed into a nearby field.

He ran, but officers including K-9 set up a perimeter and found William after a short search.

William had several felony warrants out for his arrest and no license. He was booked for hit and run and evading police.

3:35pm: Salinas Police are looking for a driver who ran from his car after getting into an accident near the Hwy 101 on-ramp at Airport Blvd.

Reports are that the car was stolen.

Salinas Fire and Police K-9’s are on scene searching the area of Moffett Street behind the Salinas Airport.
