CHP: 225 collisions on Super Bowl Sunday for 2012
Hundreds of alcohol-related collisions occur every year in California on Super Bowl Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said in 2012, alcohol was involved in nearly 225 collisions on Super Bowl Sunday.
Data results for 2013 are not available yet.
CHP said more than 400 people were arrested for driving under the influence. There were 225 collisions; eight resulted in death and 79 resulted in injuries.
CHP said they will work with law enforcement agencies throughout the state to discourage people from driving under the influence and to remove those drivers from the streets before they hurt or kill themselves or others.
Central Coast law enforcement groups will be part of that crackdown as part of the Avoid the 20 Campaign.
Officers said they will be in areas and communities that have a big history of DUI crashes and arrests. Officers urge everyone to find a designated driver before going out to Super Bowl festivities.
