Local inventor and son make debut on national television

A local inventor and his son are making their debut on national television Wednesday night. Jay and Frank Hurley of Aromas will showcase their robotic device on Science Channel’s ‘All-American Makers.’

“I’ve always wanted to do something in robotics,” Jay Hurley said.

Hurley calls his invention a ‘Droidle.’ He’ll get his chance to turn his big ideas into big money when he pitches the robot to potential investors. He and his son have been working on the project for over a year.

“It’s basically a social network of little robots that can connect to each other,” Frank Hurley explains, “Connect to the phone and connect to the internet of things.”

It’s part toy, part educational tool. With your phone, you can program what you want the Droidle to do.

“Digital experiences are becoming more and more a part of our lives,” Hurley explains. “If you go anywhere, you see people looking at their phones and there’s not a big group of people looking at the software. Droidles give kids and people of all ages a chance to develop software in a way that doesn’t take a lot of training.”

Because it makes software development so simple, Jay is hoping it’ll be a big success when the product is finally ready to hit store shelves, possibly by the end of the year.
