Making A Difference: Pet foster parents
It’s more than puppy love for Don and Kathi Manzagol. Since 2002, they’ve partnered with the SPCA for Monterey County to foster animals. Their mission is to take in the sick and injured and those too young for adoption. Each year the shelter receives thousands of animals who need special care. Without the support from foster parents, many animals wouldn’t find forever homes.
Beth Brookhouser is the Director of Community Outreach for the SPCA for Monterey County. She says, “People like Don and Kathi take them into their homes with open arms. They raise them, heal them and get them ready to be adopted.”
But it’s no easy task. Don and Kathi have had to transform their home and lives.
Don says, “It takes about 4,5,6 hours a day. It means walking them, cleaning up and feeding them. We have five cages, each cage can accommodate five to six kittens or puppies.”
In 13 years of service the pair has fostered more than 960 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. Making a difference by opening their hearts and home to animals in need.
