Thieves break into San Lorenzo Valley High
The Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Department is looking for the suspects who left $13,000 worth of damage after breaking into San Lorenzo Valley High School.
“It’s very disappointing that somebody that would do this, because you’re really taking money and you’re taking tools away from students.”
San Lorenzo Valley School District Superintendent Laurie Bruton said students came back from the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to find 25 Chromebooks stolen from a Charter School classroom on campus, worth $300 each.
“We have insurance of course and we’re going to provide what we need to for our students to make sure that they have everything they need,” said Bruton.
The sheriff’s department said the suspects forced their way into storage sheds on the pool deck. School officials said the suspects threw chairs, tables and the lifeguard stand into the pool. They said chemicals from the storage were also dumped in the water.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office said security cameras caught it on tape. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident and have added extra patrol cars on campus.
“We’re asking for people to sound the alarm basically, give us a call and let us come out and check it out and then as well be on the look out for these 25 Chrome notebook pads, said Sgt. Kelly Kent with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s department has not identified any suspects. The Sheriff’s Office is looking over surveillance video.
Bruton said the starting blocks used for swim meets could have some damage as well. The school is having those checked out.
