Monterey County Sheriff says “ok” to former Sheriff Miller promotions
Saturday the Sheriff’s Office released results of the independent assessment done regarding promotions issued by former Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller.
New Sheriff Steve Bernal said “I look forward to working collaboratively with the Deputy Sheriff’s Association in the future to consider recruitment process improvements that may be made in the future.”
The Assistant Human Resources Director conducted the review of the recent sergeant promotions and reported that the scores and testing were appropriately utilized to determine eligibility for the final selection interviews. The Director also determined the County Human Resources process was followed to ensure that qualified candidates were referred for the final selection interviews for promotion to sergeant positions.
The six deputies were promoted at the end of last year and were supposed to take effect on December 27th, however Bernal temporarily halted that start date pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed by the Deputy Sheriff’s Assocation. The DSA claimed Miller did not follow the personnel promotions procedure when selection the six deputies to become sergeant.
