Carjacking in Watsonville leads to chase

Three men were arrested after they stole a vehicle in Watsonville that led to a chase that ended in Santa Cruz, according to Watsonville Police Department.

Before 8 p.m Friday, the Watsonville Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking in the area of Crestview Drive and Madison Street in Watsonville.

Police said the victim reported three armed men approached her, took her cell phone, money and her car.

A Santa Cruz deputy spotted he vehicle traveling on Highway 1, heading towards Santa Cruz. Police said the suspects then led law enforcemnet on a chase that ended in Santa Cruz near the area of Oceanview and Branciforte.

Police said two suspects were arrested just before 8:30 p.m. and the third suspect was on the run.

A perimeter was set up. Watsonville Police, Santa Cruz Police, The California Highway Patrol and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office were involved.

Police said the third suspect, 21-year old Earvin Avalos Medrano, was spotted and arrested near the area of the search Saturday at 12:22 a.m.

He was booked in the Santa Cruz County Jail.
