Kotowski takes oath for another term as County Superintendent of Schools

About 150 guests witnessed Dr. Nancy Kotowski take the oath of office for her third term of four years as Monterey County Superintendent of Schools.

There were notable guests along with educators, students, elected officials, and members of her family attending the swearing in ceremony.

“It is a great honor, a great responsibility, and a great public trust that I hold as the Monterey County Superintendent of Schools,” Dr. Kotowski said. “As I begin this new term of office, I renew my dedicated commitment and all my energy to the mission we all share of preparing every one of our students for success at each step of their educational journey.”

Monterey county District Attorney Dean Flippo administered the Oath of Office.

Kotowski will continue to negotiate through a period of the new Common Core Standards that have some questioning this form of public instruction. Also truancy is an ongoing issue that has been met with some success as grant funding is coming into the county to aid programs to keep children in school.

Of the notables attending, Sylvia Panetta, Co-Chair and CEO, Panetta Institute for Public Policy, Jack O’Connell, former State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Marvin Biasotti, Superintendent, Carmel Unified School District, Mary Claypool, President, Monterey County Board of Education, and Dr. Deneen Guss, Deputy Superintendent, Monterey County Office of Education.
