Pretrial conference set for Kenney case
A pretrial conference date is set for the case involving former Marina couple Brandon and Christina Kenney, who are in custody for suspicion of felony child abuse.
The were arrested last April following a six month investigation into their son’s death.
The Kenneys waived the preliminary hearing with the agreement that there will be no additional charges filed against them. Brandon and Christina Kenney entered not guilty pleas and the case was set for a pretrial conference, which will take place on February 17th, at 10:00am in courtroom 4 of the Monterey County Superior Court in Salinas.
Jennifer Davenport, who is the Deputy Public Defender for Brandon Kenney, said, “My client has always maintained his innocence, so I anticipate that a trial is likely.” Davenport, however, does not anticipate a prison sentence will occur.
Brandon and Christina Kenney moved to Tacoma, Washington after their son’s death. Davenport said, “My client and his wife were grieving the death of their son, so they went to Washington to be with family so that they could receive the support that they desperately needed.”
Davenport added, “Obviously, being in custody during this whole ordeal is extremely difficult for them, so we’re looking forward to the day that they get to go before a jury.”
