Central Coast undocumented immigrants pack DMV offices
Today was the first day undocumented immigrants were able to get driver licenses under a new law, and hundreds of people turned in applications.
The DMV says as of noon they had nearly 6,200 new license applications.
Here in the Central Coast, the DMV offices were jam packed with more than 100 appointments at the Seaside office alone and lines in Salinas were also long.
Ian Irwin said, “I was trying to make an appointment for my driver’s license, but it is way too backed up in there.”
It is not just happening in this area. Offices across the country were busy. Staffing across the state was increased by 900 employees to prepare for today.
