Santa Cruz County holiday tree recycling

Santa Cruz County residents can have their Christmas trees recycled.

The County of Santa Cruz said trees will be picked up in all areas of Santa Cruz County between January 5th and January 9th.

According to the Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works, in certain jurisdictions, the pick up period will be extended. In the City of Santa Cruz January 1st through January 14th. Green Waste Recovery will serve other jurisdictions Between January 2nd and January 16, 2015.

Preparing trees for pick up entails removing all of the tinsel, ornaments and stands. Large trees should be cut down to six feet in length. In unincorporated Santa Cruz County, trees should be cut down to lengths of three feet in order to be ready for curbside pick up.

Clustered trees will not be accepted.

The Department of Public works said many fire stations and other locations also have bins for dropping off holiday trees through January 18, 2015.
