Baby reunites with firefighters

A baby who was left at a fire station by his mother got to meet the firefighters who took him in one night in December of 2013.

Little Caleb got to meet the Garden Grove firefighters just one day before his first birthday.

Last December, his mother gave him up as part of the state’s Safe Surrender Program.

Captain Tony Acosta was on duty when his mother dropped him off.

Acosta said he remembered that day quite clearly. He said, “‘Hey Cap, there’s a lady dropping off a baby,’ and both of us… he had this expression on his face like, ‘What?'”

Ryan Van Wie, also of the Garden Grove Fire Department, said, “Maybe if he might not have had a chance before, now he’s got a great chance to do well in life and prosper.”

Caleb’s new adopted parents say they’re glad his mother gave him a shot at a better life.
