One inmate dead, another in critical condition after stabbing at Soledad prison

Salinas Valley State Prison investigators have identified the inmate who died in the double-stabbing attack Monday afternoon.

39-year-old Barry Storey was pronounced dead at the prison, the second victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment, his identity is not being released.

Storey was being tried in Monterey County for the September 15, 2012 homicide of another inmate, Edgar Sultan.

Investigators have also identified the four suspects:

48-year-old James Perkuhn is serving a 25-years-to-life sentence from Monterey County for first-degree murder.

47-year-old Todd Morgan is serving a 25-years-to-life sentence from Santa Clara County for second-degree robbery and burglary.

30-year-old Jeffery Bruggman is serving a term of 18-years from Sacramento County for second-degree robbery.

41-year-old William McIntosh is serving a 25-years-to-life sentence from Tulare County for first-degree murder and second-degree murder.

SVSP administrators have limited inmate movement on the facility where the incident occurred to facilitate the investigation.

UPDATE 12-29-2014, 5:13pm: One inmate is now confirmed dead, the other inmate is still in critical condition.

12-29-2014: Press officers from the Soledad Correctional Training Facility are confirming that a fight broke out in the rec yard of the Level I and II general population prison on Monday.

California Department of Corrections and Rehab officials say that two inmates were stabbed simultaneously and in the same area by four other inmates just after 2:30p.m.

Guards released pepper spray and non-lethal bullets to subdue inmates and control the fight.

The two inmates have been flown out to trauma centers, both are said to be in critical condition.

The two incidents are being considered attempted murder cases, the scene and investigation are still active at the prison.
