Blood donations sought on Monterey Peninsula

The Blood Center of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is still seeking donations before its scheduled closure next month.

All blood types are needed, but those with blood type O+ are in particular demand.

CHOMP’s Blood Center is closing Oct. 16 in light of lower demand for blood products prompted by advances in medical science and blood management.

Donation requirements, hours of operation and other information is available on the Blood Center website. You can also call 625-4814.

The Blood Center is at 576 Hartnell Drive, Monterey. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome. Donors must be 17 or older, (16 with parental permission,) and weigh at least 110 pounds.

There also is a mobile blood drive scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s hosted by the Seaside Fire Department.
