Classic car to be auctioned off in Monterey to benefit wounded officer
A 1970 Shelby GT500 Fastback will be auctioned off Saturday in Monterey to benefit a wounded Navy officer.
All proceeds from the auction of the classic car will be donated to the Brothers In Arms Foundation for the benefit of Ian McClanahan, a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsmen.
McClanahan, 23, was injured while training for a combat deployment to Afghanistan. McClanahan was training at Hawthorne Army Weapons Depot in Nevada in March 2013 when for two 60mm mortar rounds detonated on the firing line gravely injuring six Marines. Seven other Marines lost their lives.
The North Carolina native is currently receiving care at the Walter Reed National Medical Center. Since the accident, he has undergone more than a hundred surgeries reconstructing his jaw, mouth, and right leg.
The Brothers In Arms Foundation is a Florida-based nonprofit that provides support to immediate family members of Marines and FMF Corpsmen who have been critically wounded or fallen while serving within the Special Operations Community of The United States Marine Corps.
