Federal delegation to tour Salinas, discuss violence reduction
A federal delegation will be visiting Salinas Tuesday and Wednesday to tour site and meet with leaders about violence reduction strategies.
The group is comprised of representatives from the Department of Justice, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal agencies. They are part of the White House’s National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, of which Salinas is a charter member.
Congressman Sam Farr and other elected officials will join the delegation Wednesday morning for a Community Alliance for Safety and Peace meeting at the Salinas City Elementary School District offices.
Among items on the two-day agenda:
The Salinas Police will discuss Legitimacy and Procedural Justice training, shooting reviews, community policing and the Police Activities League.
Monterey County will present on Public Health Bureau Services, the Silver Star Resource Center and Natividad’s Trauma and Prevention Services.
The Salinas City Council will recognize graduates of its Community Leadership Academy
CASP and the City’s Community Safety Division will share updates on progress on implementing the violence reduction strategy
The School Climate Leadership team will talk about progress improving the social climate in the schools.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department will join 2nd Chance Family and Youth Services to share information on their work at the Breadbox and other community centers.
