CalFire contains Carmel Valley blaze to 13 acres
CALFIRE crews were able to contain a vegetation fire in the area of Robinson Canyon Road and San Clemente Trail to 13 acres as of late Wednesday afternoon.
The Carmel Valley fire was first reported just before 1 p.m.
CALFIRE responded to the incident with five fire engines, two chief officers, an air tactical observation unit, four air tankers, two helicopters, one bulldozer and four hand crews.
Monterey County Regional Fire Protection also responded with four fire engines and two water tenders. A total of about 140 firefighters responded to the fire.
About five acres of grass and brush were ablaze when firefighters arrived. CALFIRE Air Tankers dropped retardant to slow the spread of the fire until ground resources could arrive on scene. The fire was contained at 13 acres at 3:45 p.m.
No injuries were reported. Firefighters will stay on scene overnight mopping up and watching for hot spots.
