Carmel Valley man accused of statutory rape
A 20-year-old Carmel Valley man is accused of statutory rape, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies responded Tuesday to a report of past tense physical abuse of a minor. An underage girl told deputies that Jose Matias Reyes Alvarez had battered her. She had a visible injury.
While investigating that incident, the deputy discovered Alvarez had been in a sexual relationship with another underage girl and had taken her across state lines without her parents’ consent.
Alvarez was arrested on an unrelated warrant as well as charges stemming from this investigation.
