Wharf to Wharf Race will affect Santa Cruz traffic

The Highway 1 off-ramps in both directions at Bay Avenue and Porter Street will be closed between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon this Sunday, July 27 for the thousands of runners who will race from Santa Cruz to Capitola in the annual Wharf-to-Wharf Race.

While these ramps are closed, message signs will be used to direct southbound Highway 1 motorists to exit at Park Avenue. The California Highway Patrol will be present to provide traffic control.

The race is limited to 16,000 runners and it sold out months in advance.

While many people come for sun, fun and fitness reasons, serious athletes run to test their mettle against the best. The race draws an elite, international field. The roll of past champions includes a number of former Olympians.
