Watsonville police investigating shooting that led to car crash

Watsonville police are investigating a drive-by shooting that led to a car crash Tuesday night.

Officers were dispatched to Shady Oaks Drive around 11:30 p.m. for a report of a hit and run traffic collision. Officers then found out shots were heard in the area and four or five subjects were seen fleeing from the scene.

When officers arrived, the located an unoccupied black Toyota sedan with several bullet holes in it. Witnesses told police that a passenger in a black SUV fired several shots at the sedan while both cars were traveling on Holly Drive.

The suspect SUV drove off but the sedan crashed into a parked car, then came to a stop on Shady Oaks Drive, where the occupants abandoned it.

Neither the SUV, the SUV’s occupants nor the sedan’s occupants were located.

Watsonville police asked anyone with information on the case to call the department’s tipline at 724-3544 or the investigation bureau at 768-3350.
