Prunedale homeowner detains teen who allegedly tried to break into home

A homeowner apparently held down a 15-year-old boy he caught trying to break into his home early Monday morning, authorities said.

Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 17000 block of Cross Road around 3:30 a.m. for a report of an attempted burglary.

When they arrived, the 15-year-old suspect was sitting in a chair, being held there by the homeowner.

The teen was on probation for burglary, deputies said. They say that when contacted, the teen admitted also stealing a stereo from an unlocked car. He had two knives in his possession.

The teenager was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall.

News Channel 5’s Jake Reiner spoke with the homeowner Monday afternoon about the ordeal.
