1 killed in officer-involved shooting in Salinas Thursday
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that one man died after an officer-involved shooting in Salinas Thursday morning.
Salinas police say officers responded to a civilian call on Beverly Drive off Fairview Avenue just before 5 a.m.
Officers won’t go into detail on what the call was about, but say a suspect was shot.
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office is handling the investigation of the shooting.
DA Dean Flippo has identified the man fatally shot by police as Frank Alvarado. His next of kin has been notified.
Flippo would not elaborate on the details of the initial call to which police responded.
Alvarado, 39, had a criminal history locally, according to court records.
That included a 2003 conviction for attempted murder, for which he was sentenced to state prison, and a 1995 conviction for charges that included possession of a controlled substance and carrying a loaded firearm in a public place. He was placed on probation in the latter case.
Alvarado’s shooting is the fourth fatal officer-involved shooting in Salinas this year.
