SPCA offering reward after 18 rabbits abandoned in Seaside

The SPCA for Monterey County is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever abandoned 18 young rabbits at Laguna Regional Park.

Seaside Animal Control brought ten rabbits to the SPCA on July 3 after finding them in a box at the Seaside park. SPCA Humane Officers returned to the park on July 8 and rescued eight additional rabbits running loose there.

The rabbits are all domestic and tame, and SPCA officials say they wouldn’t have survived on their own. They’re estimated to be eight to 12 weeks old, with long nails and urine stains consistent with being kept in cages. They appear to be from the same owner.

Abandoning animals is a misdemeanor under state law.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 373-2631 or report it online. All calls are confidential.
