Committee formed to find new King City police chief
The search begins for a new chief in a city torn apart by allegations of embezzlement in an alleged towing scheme and a city still working to rebuild the trust in the community.
The King City’s city manager has picked four people to sit on the police chief selection committee.
The committee will be tasked with picking a new chief as an interim is currently in place.
This comes months after former Chief Nick Baldiviez and acting Chief Bruce Miller were two of the six King City officers arrested, some for their alleged involvement in a towing scheme.
The search for a new chief also comes on the same day several of those officers were expected in court, but their hearing was delayed until later this month.
On Thursday, acting Chief Bruce Miller and his brother are expected to appear in court for their ongoing preliminary hearing along with Sgt. Bobby Carrillo.
The city manager said the people on the selection committee expressed the desire to assist the city in selecting the best possible chief of police.
The selection process was previously outlined to the City Council and includes the retention of an outside firm to assist in the process as well as a local committee to review, interview and recommend a candidate for the position to the city manager.
The city manager is responsible for the appointment of the chief.
The city manager said the group is expected to move quickly in the selection process.
