Seaside boy gets to be a construction worker for a day

Renzo Lombardi, 3, has always loved big-rigs and construction trucks.

The young Seaside resident has been battling kidney cancer, and on Tuesday, he got a special chance to ride on a construction truck himself.

The Make a Wish Foundation partnered with Graniterock in Aromas to make his dream come true. A large truck picked him up at his Seaside home Tuesday morning and brought him to a construction zone.

Renzo had the opportunity to see the big machines, ride them and even give orders on where to put materials.

His father, Vince Lombardi, said his son spent the bulk of his second year of life at home recuperating — seeing his son go through that was so hard, he said.

Renzo is now in remission, fortunately.
