Trial begins for Live Oak man accused of killing roommate, dumping body

Testimony opened Monday in the trial of a 53-year-old Live Oak man accused of killing his roommate.

Louis “Nick” Kusalich is charged with first-degree murder for the death of Robert Burr.

Burr, 50, was bludgeoned to death with a hammer at his home in Live Oak in September 2010. His body was later found dumped on Kusalich’s father’s property in the Soquel Hills.

Kusalich led authorities to Burr’s body.

Santa Cruz County Assistant District Attorney Charlie Baum is prosecuting the case. Kusalich is represented by veteran defense attorney Art Dudley.
